Whether you’re just a beginner or a seasoned veteran in dancing, BYU’s Adult Ballroom Dance Camp has something to interest you. In its 38th year, this exciting camp offers the best in both International and American styles of ballroom dancing. Each day of camp provides up to seven hours of dance instruction with world-renowned professional instructors. This memorable weeklong camp also includes a banquet, awards ceremony, camp dance, and closing showcase in which each participant performs what he or she has learned!

During free time, enjoy exploring the beautiful BYU campus. Come and make new friends, and enjoy dancing with some of the world‘s top professionals!


Lee Wakefield    Linda Wakefield

Lee and Linda Wakefield, retired artistic directors of the BYU Ballroom Dance Company, heading the BYU Adult Ballroom Dance Camp. They are 23-time winners of the British Formation championships and are two-time United States Professional Theatre Arts champions. Lee and Linda have directed the camp since 1981. Their experience lets them give participants the maximum opportunity to learn and enjoy ballroom dancing during the five–day workshop.

  • Tony Meredith - has been behind the scenes as well as made appearances in various films, TV shows, and Broadway. Cohosted seasons one and tow of the PBS series America's Ballroom Challenge and has appeared as a guest choreographer on FOX's So You Think You Can Dance.
  • Andre and Natalie Paramonov – World Professional South American Show Dance Champions; five times undefeated Canadian National Professional Latin American Champions; Asia–Pacific Professional Latin American Champions.
  • Jonathan Roberts - Former US Smooth Champion and Dancing with the Stars celebrity
  • David and Natalie Schulz – Professional Smooth Champions
  • Igor & Irina Suvorov – Former Russian Amateur Latin, Ballroom and 10-Dance champions; US National Professional Ballroom runners-up; US representative to the World Professional Ballroom Championships; British Open Professional Rising Star Standard champions
  • Lee and Linda Wakefield – Former directors BYU Ballroom Dance Company and BYU Adult Ballroom Dance Camp; 23–time winners British Formation Championships; two–time US Professional Theatre Arts Champions.

Dance Instruction Classes will be offered in up to five skill levels (beginning, intermediate I, intermediate II, advanced I, and advanced II).

*These two dances will be taught in a sequence or "routine" form. The purpose of presenting material in this manner is to assist those camp participants who need to gather material for routines of their own. These routines will also be performed at the Closing Showcase by camp participants. Those camp participants who are not interested in learning a "routine" will still benefit from the abundance of material presented in these classes

Registration Announcement

There is no need to sign up with a partner currently. To keep the gender enrollments equal for the Adult Ballroom Dance Camp, females will need to sign up with a male partner once we have a ratio of 2:1 females to males registered.

Tuition covers approximately 30 hours of dance instruction, a midweek banquet, a camp novelty item, and dinner at the closing showcase on Friday night.

Optional BYU Credit $75

One semester hour of Dance 500R college credit is offered. In addition to attending classes, those registered for credit must submit an essay on a topic to be announced. The program directors will provide information for 500R requirements on the first day of camp at the orientation meeting.

Optional Meal Card “COUGAR CASH” $85

A pocket–size meal card will be issued to those who wish to have quick access to meals on campus. The meal card may be used at ALL BYU Dining locations, vending machines, and the BYU Store (not Twilight Zone or concessions). The balance on the meal card decreases by the amount of purchase. No refund will be given on any remaining balance.

Optional Private Lessons $110

Participants may request private lessons from the professional instructor(s) of their choice. You must have a partner to out your lesson or make arrangements with Linda Wakefield for a partner. Lessons are coordinated through Linda Wakefield at Please contact Linda only after you have received a confirmed spot in the camp. Slots are limited and allocated on a first–come, first–served basis, so be sure to make arrangements early. The cost for private lessons is $110 per lesson per couple, which is nonrefundable after camp begins.

Optional Instructional DVD $200

A DVD containing instruction by the professionals will be available to camp participants only. The material contained in the DVD is the same as the material taught in the classes throughout the week. The final student showcase will be included on the DVD without music, due to copyright issues. Please note that these DVDs are copy protected with macrovision and cannot be duplicated. Order forms will be available at the camp if you would like to purchase it anytime during camp.

Registration Notes

  • A full refund (minus $25 nonrefundable) will be granted to all cancellations requested by 4:00 p.m. June 22, 2018. No housing refunds are available after this date, though partial refunds for the workshop may be available on a case-by-case basis.
  • No refunds will be made after camp begins.
  • Before 4:00 p.m., Friday, June 22, 2018, the simplest way to cancel a camp registration is to log into your account online and process the withdrawal yourself. You can also call 801-422-8925 to cancel a camp registration. A $25 processing fee will be withheld.
  • Full tuition is due at the time of registration. No deposits will be accepted.
  • Information packets with updated check–in times will be available on our website two to four weeks before the camp begins.

Housing, Shared $95 or Private $190

A limited number of spaces are available in Helamen Halls student dorms. Both shared and private rooms are available Sunday through Friday night. Helaman Halls is the on-campus housing located north of the Richards Building. This housing is "hotel" style with rooms connected to a main hallway. Rooms are equipped with two twin-size beds, pullout drawers, closets, desks, one mini fridge, a sink and a large mirror. Bathrooms are accessed from the hallway and shared with the whole floor. Roommate preference will be honored when requested at the time of registration. Private rooms are in a shared room format, with no roommate. There is no married-couple housing available. Parking is available at these dorms, but please do not park in special permit stalls.

There is  early check-in available for on-campus housing. It will be available starting Saturday at 7:00 p.m. but you must pay the extra fee with registration. Please see the "Registration" page. 


For those who would prefer to stay in a local hotel, we have arranged with some local hotels for rooms to be reserved at a special conference rate. Below is a table of hotels, BYU rates, and a link to their Web sites. When calling to make reservations, please let them know that you are with the BYU Adult Ballroom Dance Camp and they will give you this conference rate as long as they have rooms available. Please note that one month prior to the camp, most hotels will release the un-booked rooms from the reservation block and open them to the general public. They will still honor the BYU rates if rooms are available after this time, but to assure the rate and availability, make sure to book at least one month in advance of the camp.

Travel / Shuttles / Parking / Check-in

Airport-to-Campus Transportation

Brigham Young University is located in Provo, Utah, approximately 50 miles south of the Salt Lake International Airport. BYU can be reached from the north or south via Interstate 15, taking exit 269 (University Parkway). A shuttle service is available for transportation from the airport to the participant’s destination. For details on this service, please contact Express Shuttle at 1–800–397–0773.

Late Camp Check-In: Monday, July 31, 2017, starting at 7:30 a.m., and anytime thereafter, in the Wilkinson Student Center (WSC) main ballroom.

Where to Come for Check-in

Check-in will be held inside the BYU Conference Center foyer, (see BYU map: The Conference Center is currently under construction. Please see the conference center website for updated parking and entrance information, a map, and specific driving directions:

Check-in will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 30, 2017. Registration packets and camp novelties will be distributed to all participants, as well as housing cards and Cougar Cash to those who purchased them. You may also purchase Cougar Cash at check-in if you would like. If you are going to stay in BYU on-campus housing you will go to the Cannon Center after you check in to pick up your room assignment and dorm key. If you arrive after 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, you can check in to your dorm room by going to the Cannon Center in Helaman Halls to pick up your key. It is open until midnight. You may call the Cannon Center anytime before midnight at (801) 422-2034. They have an on-call phone number on the door if you arrive after midnight. BYU Housing Maps are located here: You will receive your camp packet and novelties Monday morning. We will be checking-in participants beginning at 7:30 a.m. on Monday in the Wilkinson Student Center (WSC) main ballroom, and anytime thereafter.

Check-in Parking and Shuttles

On Sunday, July 30, you may park in the southwest parking lot of the Conference Center. Enter through the south doors (level one or level two). Go down the second floor hall to the lobby where Check-in will be held. Continuous shuttle service will be provided during check-in, from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m., between the conference center and Cannon Center (at Helaman Halls, BYU’s on-campus housing). BYU shuttle services will NOT be offered to and from any hotels since BYU has discontinued its shuttle services. The hotels mentioned on the "Housing / Hotels" link above provide shuttle services. 

Parking / Shuttle Service — DURING CAMP

Dance camp parking will be within walking distance of the Wilkinson Center, available in the law building’s northeast parking lot (, see Lot 26G by choosing “Parking,” then clicking on the colored parking lots). This lot is just east of the Wilkinson Center where the dance classes are held. Please remember that disability stalls, dean and official stalls, service stalls, red curbs, etc., require special permits. Parking in any of these stalls without the proper permit will result in a parking citation. Please remember that timed stalls are enforced for the time posted. 

PLEASE NOTE: BYU shuttle service will only be offered during lunchtime. If you are staying in a hotel and will need shuttle service, we encourage you to choose a hotel that provides a shuttle service. BYU shuttle service will be offered during lunchtime between the Wilkinson Center and the Cannon Center cafeteria. BYU shuttle services will not be available at hotels.
